For district & school leaders
A whole-community approach to digital wellness for students.
Pause2MAP gives districts a research-informed framework β Pause, Manage, Analyze, Participate β so students, families, and educators can navigate social media with intention, before harm becomes a crisis.

Why districts need Pause2MAP
Children aren't just using phones.
They're growing up inside them.
Social media is not just a communication tool β it's a developmental context that shapes attention, identity, relationships, emotional wellbeing, and civic understanding every day. Across schools, leaders are seeing the same patterns:
- !Compulsive scrolling, social comparison, and the emotional intensity of always-on environments.
- !Online conflict, misinformation, and distraction bleeding into classrooms.
- !Families and educators concerned β but without a shared framework beyond rules, warnings, or screen-time limits.
- !Fragmented responses, reactive discipline, and one-time awareness campaigns that don't stick.

Core insight
You can't think clearly when you're emotionally flooded β and you can't act wisely if you haven't thought it through. Before you scroll, post, or share, Pause and MAP your choice.
β The Pause2MAP framework
What is Pause2MAP?
A practical framework built around four connected dimensions.
Pause2MAP teaches students, families, and educators how to slow down and make wiser digital choices. The sequence matters: pause first, then manage emotions and time, analyze messages and platforms, and participate safely and respectfully.
Step 01 Β· Pause
Pause
Before scrolling, posting, sharing, or reacting, participants learn to interrupt automatic behavior and create space for reflection.
Step 02 Β· Manage
Manage
Build self-regulation by recognizing emotional triggers, digital habits, and passive scrolling patterns through the Emotion Spotter and APS Check.
Step 03 Β· Analyze
Analyze
Strengthen media literacy. Ask: Who made this? Who is it for? What's included or omitted? Why does it appear here? Should it be trusted?
Step 04 Β· Participate
Participate
Develop values-based digital citizenship β boundary-setting, privacy awareness, conflict navigation, and thoughtful online participation.
How it addresses social media harms
Three core capacities. One coherent response.
The workshop addresses overuse, harmful content, social comparison, misinformation, persuasive design, and online conflict β by giving youth realistic tools, not just rules.
Self-regulation
Participants recognize emotional activation, passive scrolling, and overuse patterns β so they can set healthier boundaries and more intentional habits.
Media literacy & critical analysis
Learn how platforms shape attention, how messages are constructed, and how to distinguish credibility from manipulation before sharing or responding.
Responsible digital citizenship
Engage with care, accountability, and respect β setting boundaries, communicating directly, and making values-based decisions about what to post or share.

A whole-community design
Not a program for students alone. A partnership across your community.
Meaningful change requires alignment across students, caregivers, educators, administrators, and school culture. Pause2MAP supports districts in:

For district leaders considering Pause2MAP
Questions we hear from superintendents and curriculum directors.
Is this another screen-time program?
No. Pause2MAP is a prevention-oriented framework that develops reflective, emotional, analytical, and relational capacities. Students need tools, common language, and practical strategies β not just rules and limits.
What grade levels does it serve?
Pause2MAP is intentionally designed for use before youth create an account, and continues to support upper-elementary, middle, and high-school students alongside their families and educators. We tailor each engagement to your community.
How does it fit alongside SEL and media literacy work we already do?
Pause2MAP is built to integrate. It connects digital wellness, social-emotional learning, media literacy, ethical participation, and family engagement under one shared vocabulary β rather than adding another siloed initiative.
What does the first conversation look like?
A 30-minute consultation with the Media Education Lab team. We learn about your district's context and goals, walk through the three packages, and recommend a pathway. No commitment required.
