Holiday Tech Gadget Wish Lists

Image removed. As the holiday season ramps up, our feeds can fill with new tech gadgets: AI wearables, gaming gear, smart speakers, tablets, creator tools, and more. But which gadgets actually spark curiosity, creativity, and connection... and which mostly harvest data, drain our attention, or end up in a drawer by February?

Join the MediaEd Club of the Media Education Lab for a playful and practical December meetup where we’ll build (and critique!) our own holiday tech gadget wish lists. Bring your favorite recommendations for the “technology geek” in your life (or for yourself!) and be ready to talk about media literacy, privacy, right-to-repair, equity, and digital well-being alongside specs and features. Together we’ll crowd-source lists of gifts that feel both fun and thoughtful.

In this session, we will:

  1. Share our favorite gadgets, accessories, apps, and subscriptions that support learning, creativity, and play

  2. Surface low-cost and no-cost ideas, including used/refurbished tech, library resources, and DIY/repair options

  3. Practice asking critical media literacy questions before adding tech to the cart (Who benefits? Who’s included or excluded? What data are we giving away?)

  4. Co-create a collaborative holiday tech gift guide that participants can adapt and share with their own communities
