INTERNSHIP. College students from any college or university can get credit for working as an Intern at the Media Education Lab. You will perform a variety of tasks to support the Media Education Lab events and digital platforms. You can work on site in Chicago or Rhode Island or remotely from wherever (in the world) you are located. Gain knowledge of media literacy education while building valuable work skills. Expectation: 5 - 8 hours weekly, plus a reflective essay written at the conclusion of the internship.

WRITER
INTERNSHIP. Youth Media Reporter is returning, revived and reimagined for a new generation. We’re relaunching as a dynamic online journal—now hosted on Substack—dedicated to empowering educators and students with insights on media education, the learning or teaching about or with media.
We are currently seeking Publishing & Blogging Interns to join our team. This unpaid, remote internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the operations of a professional online journal, develop essential writing and publishing skills, and contribute meaningfully to the discourse on responsible media use.
Key Responsibilities:
Draft, edit, and publish short blog-style posts for the Youth Media Reporter Substack.
Format and upload articles, ensuring clarity, readability, and alignment with the journal’s mission.
Collaborate with the editorial team to refine content and maintain consistency in tone and style.
Curate multimedia elements (images, links, videos) to enhance articles.
Support the publishing schedule and help coordinate with contributors.
Qualifications:
Strong writing and editing skills; prior blogging, journalism, or media experience is a plus.
Interest in media literacy, youth, and technology.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment.
Familiarity with digital publishing tools (Substack or WordPress preferred, but not required).
Creativity and openness to new formats and approaches.

This unpaid, remote internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the operations of a professional online journal, develop essential editorial skills, and contribute meaningfully to the discourse on responsible media use.
We are currently seeking interns to take on the role of copy editor. We encourage you to reach out if you have experience in such a field. As an intern, you will gain experience in the inner operations of an online journal while building valuable work skills and contributing to the conversation on responsible and effective media use.
Key Responsibilities:
Copy edit approximately 4-5 monthly articles for grammar, punctuation, spelling, clarity, consistency, etc.
Verify factual accuracy where applicable.
Collaborate effectively with authors and the editorial team to refine content.
Qualifications:
Demonstrable experience in copy editing, proofreading, or a related editorial role.
Attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy and consistency.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment.
Interest in media literacy.

Interest in media literacy.
