Beyond Access: Challenging Educational Platforms Through a Tetrad of Literacies Approach
How is EdTech currently being implemented and employed in the Canadian K-12 education system? This webinar will review a draft of several policy responses originating from the proposed Tetrad of Literacies, a working conceptual framework to initiate reflection on the goals of democratic education and the impacts of platforms. Building on previous literature in the field, this webinar will provide direction for subsequent research, while also making the case for certain provisional policies regarding educational governance and technology, as outlined in the Tetrad of Literacies, to be envisioned in Canadian schools. The specific working policy responses discussed will originate from the working Tetrad of Literacies framework, which includes the following four: critical media literacy, digital literacy, information literacy, and data literacy skills, to increase aptitude in these areas.
